Chena Roll is a dessert consisting of soft bread rolled out with mawa fillingimmersed in creamy milk.It is a bread roll served with sweetened and thickened milk with chopped nuts, flavored rose water.

Soft, sweet chena roll garnished with creamy milk and tutti frutti make up a great dessert for special occasions. It is easy to make but little time-consuming.

Like Rasgullas or Rasmalai is also made with homemade cheese known as “paneer” or “chena”. Chena Roll is made with bread and instead of being soaked in sugar syrup like Rasgullas. It is soaked in sweet, flavored milk like rasmalai.

Ingredients

  • 1 litre + 5 tbsp milk
  • 8 White bread slices
  • 50 gms Khoya/mawa
  • 3 tbsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanillla custard powder
  • 1 tbsp tutti frutti
  • 10-12 badam kaju chopped
  • 2-3 drops of rose water

Instructions

preparing milk:

  • Collect all the required ingredients.

  • Take milk in a wide, heavy bottom pan or kadai and turn the heat on high and get the milk to boil.

  • Now in a bowl take 3 tbsp of milk and add 1 tsp of vanilla custard powder.

  • Mix well, making sure there are no lumps formed in it.

  • Once the milk starts boiling, lower the heat to medium. It will start to form a thin layer of malai/cream. Now using spoon or spatula, mix it well.

  • While simmering the milk, pour the prepared custard mixture into it and stir continuously.

  • Also add sugar, adjust the amount of sugar if looking for more milk.

  • Mix well and let it simmer for 3-4 minutes on medium flame.Stir continuously.

  • Custard will infuse its color, milk will be lightly thick, yet runny consistency. Turn off the stove.

  • Let it cool completely.

preparing rolls:

  • Take bread slices and cut the edges.

  • Prepare all the bread like this.

  • Cut the bread slices into two halves vertically. Keep it aside.

  • Now prepare the stuffing by mixing mawa and dry fruits.

  • After mixing, make rolls from this mixture. Keep it aside.

  • After this, again take 3 tbsp milk in a bowl and add 2-3 drops of rose water. Mix it well.

  • .Now a take a bread piece and wet the bread with milk using fingertips.(do not drop milk using spoon otherwise it will become much soggy).

  • Place the stuffing at one side.

  • Starting on one side, roll up the bread slice tightly.

  • And at other corner, apply more milk so that its sticks properly and seal them tightly by pressing it.

  • Repeat with the second bread slice.

  • Prepare all the rolls like this.

making chena roll:

  • Now assemble all the required ingredients together.

  • For serving, arrange the rolls in a plate as shown in the picture below.

  • Then generously pour the prepared milk over the rolls.

  • Also garnish with tutti frutti and silver leaf.

  • Serve immediately this tasty and delicious sweet.
