Honeywell Tstat - Going Blank then needing to be powered off and back on
Stumped on the one, have a Honeywell tstat,
about once a week it fails by going blank then comes back on but when 5 minute delay is up
it goes blank again and keeps doing this until
power is removed from air handler, once this is
done it will come back on and work normal for
a week or so, then do it againRC

What model stat, specifically?
Any diagnosis done or is the above info all there is to go on?

Normally a blank Honeywell thermostat that resets and goes blank again, is a over loaded relay that is above the threshold. Or could be a failed thermostat. Need to get out your meter and start pullin amperages and ohm out devices in the circuit to see if it is being overloaded.
That is all I can say in an open forum.

Thermostat Model - RTH6580WF1001
Have not tried another thermostat yet.
American Standard A/H - no fault lights on the board (TAM4)
Kill all power and turn back on and cycles back on normally, and
works for a week or so, then the same thing happens again01-03-2019,08:47 PM #6

Thanks, this particular one does not have a battery, it has been reset and it currently working, but in a few days it will fail again and need resetting. Going back over there next week to do some more checks. By the way after it fails you can select emergency heat or fan only and it will work, it is only failing on a call for the heat pump, but once it has been powered off and back on it works fine for a few days.

I had something similar with a Honeywell "VisionPro 8000" going on.
I may/ may not have found the problem, due to Issues with the Service Panel, that popped up.
One side of the Main Breaker Failed, thereby stopping the 240V, so I installed a New Service Panel. So far, ... The "Demons" in this T-stat have not returned.
Could Fluctuations in the supply voltage be contributing to your problem with this Stat Randy?

Is this using power robbing technology?

Had a situation similar to this that was caused by moisture inside jacket of thermostat wire. Replaced wire a problem disappeared.

It's a retail wifi stat, by model number.
Furnace may not, since no codes, be the issue. There could be a number of things outside the furnace causing it.
Could it be a wifi connection issue?
Could it be an external safety?
Issue in the heat pump?
Too many things to guess at without more info.

Not to argue, and I assume this was to dispute it being a retail model, but it IS per mfr(Honeywell). Anything with an "R" as the beginning of the model number is a DIY/non-professional model. They will not have the same warranty or features/set up capabilities as a professional model of the same type.
"C" wire is used with WiFi models. Otherwise no "C" wire.

Agree, I was aware of this being a DIY tstat. I may try a “real” one before doing anything else.
Thanks
