Yes, WiFi devices like TVs and smart TVs require an Internet connection to work, as they rely on data from the Internet to stream content, access apps, and provide various online services. Technically speaking, these devices connect to the Internet through a wireless router using the WiFi protocol.
Should I use Wi-Fi or Ethernet for my smart TV? Ethernet would be better than Wi-Fi for a smart TV, if you have your modem nearby. This ensures a more stable and reliable connection for your TV. But if your modem is far away, you can likely make do with Wi-Fi.
WiFi transmits data using radio waves. A device's wireless adapter converts data into a radio signal and sends it out via an antenna. This process works both ways: the router also takes data from the Internet, converts it to a radio signal, and sends it back to the device to be decoded.
