  • Saints' Chase Young: Passes physical

    Rotowire

Young (neck) passed his physical Tuesday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN reports.

Young should officially be good to go for practice tomorrow despite having been placed on the active/PUP list last Thursday. The 2020 first-round pick will likely serve as a rotational pass rusher behind Cameron Jordan (ankle) and Carl Granderson after signing with the team this offseason.

  • Saints' Chase Young: Set to practice Wednesday

    Rotowire

Head coach Dennis Allen said Tuesday that Young (neck) will participate in practice Wednesday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Young can be activated off the active/PUP list at any point during training camp to participate in practice, although it is unclear whether he will be a full participant or work with trainers. The 2020 first-round pick out of Ohio State is working through the final steps of his recovery process from his offseason neck surgery. Young recorded 25 tackles (17 solo), including 7.5 sacks, and two pass deflections over 16 regular-season games with the Commanders and 49ers in 2023.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: To practice Wednesday

    Rotowire

Coach Dennis Allen said Tuesday that Olave (shoulder), who was placed on the active/non-football injury list last week, will practice in part Wednesday, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Olave looks set to come off the NFI list Wednesday, so it looks like he's nearly recovered from the shoulder injury that forced him to wear a non-contact jersey earlier this spring. The Saints are likely taking a cautious approach to the third-year wideout's recovery, given his status as a lynchpin of the receiving game. Meanwhile, Alvin Kamara reported to training camp Tuesday and is also expected to practice Wednesday, despite being disgruntled by his lack of a long-term deal with New Orleans.

  • Saints' Alvin Kamara: Reports for training camp

    Rotowire

Kamara, who skipped the final day of minicamp back in June, is present for training camp Tuesday, Luke Johnson and Matthew Paras of NOLA.com report.

Kamara skipped the final day of June's mandatory minicamp due to apparent dissatisfaction with his current contract, but he won't risk incurring fines by skipping training camp. The veteran running back, who turns 29 this Thursday, is effectively heading into the final year of his contract, as there's little conceivable scenario wherein the Saints take on the $29 million cap hit he's due in 2025. Kamara has now put together three straight seasons with a 4.0 or worse YPC mark, but he's kept his fantasy value afloat via work in the receiving game, having tallied 75 receptions through just 13 games last year. He again projects for a high-usage role in 2024, with Kendre Miller and Jamaal Williams behind him on the depth chart.

  • Saints' Kevin Austin: Inks with New Orleans

    Rotowire

The Saints signed Austin to a one-year contract Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Austin is still looking for a chance to make his NFL debut after spending the 2022 campaign on the Jaguars' practice squad. He'll now get a chance to spend training camp competing for a reserve role in New Orleans' wide receiver room.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Gets extension from Saints

    Rotowire

Shaheed and New Orleans agreed to a one-year, $5.2 million contract extension Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Shaheed earned the extension partly due to his work as a punt returner after he garnered his first career All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections as a special-teamer last season. The 25-year-old also showed growth as a wide receiver, finishing with 46 catches for 719 yards and five touchdowns over 15 regular-season contests, eight of which he started. Shahid should get the opportunity to further develop in that role during the upcoming campaign, as he's slated to work as the Saints' No. 2 receiving option behind Chris Olave (shoulder).

  • Saints' Nephi Sewell: Starts camp on active/PUP

    Rotowire

The Saints placed Sewell (knee) on the active/PUP list Thursday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Sewell suffered a torn ACL in Week 17 last season and isn't yet 100 percent. Undrafted out of Utah in 2022, Sewell has appeared in 20 games for the Saints over the last two seasons, mainly focusing on special teams. He'll likely fill a similar role in 2024.

  • Saints' Bub Means: Off active/NFI list

    Rotowire

The Saints activated Means from the active/non-football injury list Thursday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Means moved to the list Tuesday. The Saints picked Means in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft after he caught 41 passes for 721 yards and six touchdowns during his final collegiate season in 2023. Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed are New Orleans' top two wide receivers, but the depth chart is pretty open beyond them.

  • Saints' Ryan Ramczyk: Will miss 2024 season

    Rotowire

The Saints placed Ramczyk (knee) on reserve/PUP Thursday, and he will miss the entirety of the 2024 season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Being a vested veteran, Ramczyk's placement on reserve/PUP before roster cutdowns later this summer means he will not be eligible to be activated at any point during the 2024 campaign. This isn't a complete surprise, however, as Ramczyk's availability for this season was already in question way early in the offseason. It's still a huge loss for a New Orleans offensive line that lost 12-game starter Andrus Peat to the Raiders in free agency and 15-game starter James Hurst to retirement. The Saints did use their first-round pick on tackle Taliese Fuaga and did sign veteran backup Olisaemeka Udoh, but 2022 first-rounder Trevor Penning needs to step up and take hold of a starting job in his third season after failing to do so the last two years.

  • Saints' Tanoh Kpassagnon: Moves to active/PUP list

    Rotowire

Kpassagnon (Achilles) was placed on the active/PUP list by the Saints on Thursday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

The defensive end tore his Achilles during the offseason. Kpassagnon played in all 17 games for the Saints last season, recording 19 tackles, including 3.5 sacks, and two passes defensed. The eighth-year pro should be in line for another depth role if he's able to return in 2024.

  • Saints' Chase Young: Sent to PUP list by New Orleans

    Rotowire

The Saints placed Young (neck) on the active/PUP list Thursday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Young has said he intends to be ready for the start of training camp, but for now it appears that he's still working through the recovery process following his offseason neck surgery. He can come off the PUP list at any point during training camp or the preseason, once cleared to practice, and there are still just over three weeks until New Orleans' preseason opener at Arizona. The 2020 first-round pick could emerge as a key part of the Saints' pass-rush corps for the 2024 season, health permitting.

  • Saints' Juwan Johnson: Lands on PUP list ahead of camp

    Rotowire

The Saints placed Johnson (foot) on the active/PUP list Thursday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Johnson remains sidelined while recovering from foot surgery relating to an issue he seemingly suffered during June minicamp. Terrell reports that updates on Johnson's recovery have been positive, but that he's expected to begin camp by working off to the side. Once cleared to practice Johnson will be eligible to come off the PUP list at any point during camp or the preseason, but it remains to be seen whether he'll be ready for Week 1. Foster Moreau and Taysom Hill figure to handle more first-team reps while Johnson is away from the practice field, while Jesper Horsted, Tommy Hudson, Michael Jacobson and Dallin Holker could also benefit from increased opportunities.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Placed on NFI list by New Orleans

    Rotowire

The Saints placed Olave (shoulder) on the active/non-football injury list Thursday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Olave continues to work his way back from a shoulder injury sustained while weight training this offseason, and for which he spent OTAs in a non-contact jersey. While the issue seems minor, and Olave will be able to come off the NFI list at any point in training camp once cleared, his status will be worth monitoring. The 2022 first-round pick has just over three weeks to get healthy ahead of New Orleans' preseason opener against the Cardinals. OIave is coming off back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons to begin his NFL career and is positioned nicely as a potential third-year breakout candidate, especially as the clear No. 1 target in a wide receiver room that also includes Rashid Shaheed, Cedrick Wilson and A.T. Perry, but that's assuming he's indeed able to return to full health without missing much time.
