Rust Encapsulator Aerosol

  1. Ensure that the surface is free of all loose rust, scale, and paint - cleaning with a stiff wire brush should be sufficient.
  2. Remove all dust oil and grease, or chemical contamination using Eastwood's PRE (#10041Z aerosol or #10194ZP quart) . Allow to dry thoroughly.
  3. Shake can well and listen for rattle of mixing ball. Continue to shake for at least 2 minutes. Shake for 10 seconds at 1 to 2 minute intervals during application.
  4. When applying Eastwood Rust Encapsulator™ to a patch area, feather the edges of the surrounding paint with 220 grit wet/dry sandpaper. Be sure to feather into the surrounding paint by at least 1 1/4".
  5. Hold can 10 to 12 inches from the surface and apply a medium coat to ensure maximum adhesion, overlapping surrounding paint by at least 1 ¼"
  6. Single coats of Eastwood Rust Encapsulator™ will be dry to the touch in 20 minutes and thoroughly dry in 3-4 hours at 68 degrees F. If a second coat is desired for greater durability, allow 1 hour before applying the second coat. If applying heavy coats, allow extra drying time before applying.
Important - to keep nozzle clean remove any build-up on the tip after use with lacquer thinner. The spray tip can be removed with a twisting motion, and then flushed with lacquer thinner to clean. Always replace tip immediately after cleaning to prevent valve gasket from over-swelling, which can make re-insertion of the tip difficult and can even damage the valve causing malfunction. Always use gentle twisting motion to insert tip. Take care not to spray in eyes or face.
  7. If applying a topcoat, allow at least 6-8 hours drying time. For maximum topcoat adhesion, sand the surface with 320 grit wet/dry sandpaper. Allow an extra hour drying time if wet sanding.
  8. For best results, top coating should be done within 36 hours of Eastwood Rust Encapsulator™ application. After 36 hours, be sure to scuff the surface with 320 grit wet/dry sandpaper before top coating.

Fast Etch

  1. Metal surfaces to be treated should be free of grease, oil, and wax. Remove loose rust, blistered paint, and scale.
  2. Temperature and extent of corrosion determines how fast Fast Etch works. Best working temperature is above 70degrees F, but not over 100 degrees F. Shake bottle before using.
  3. Apply Fast Etch with brush, rag, roller, spray, or simply dip the corroded metal directly into the solution. To use on heavy rust, on hot days, or on vertical surfaces, saturate a clean cloth with Fast Etch , place on the part, and cover with plastic to avoid evaporation.
  4. Keep the treated metal surface moist with Fast Etch . Do not allow to dry for at least 30 minutes until the surface has a uniform gray appearance. If air bubbles appear, smooth them out with a cloth or brush. Avoid wasteful run-off. If the metal surface is not free of rust, repeat the process outlined above. Wipe the still wet part with Eastwood's PRE (#10041Z aerosol or #10194ZP quart) or acetone to remove excess Fast Etch . Treated surfaces will be coated with zinc phosphate. Prime the surface before painting.
  5. Excess Fast Etch should be removed from painted or chrome plated surfaces with a mild detergent and water as soon as possible to prevent discoloration. Wipe Dry. Fast Etch is reusable. Do not store in metal containers. Avoid using Fast Etch longer than required to completely remove rust as this may potentially weaken the metal.

Eastwood Rust Dissolver

Pre-clean item to remove oil and dirt. Rinse item and immerse fully in Eastwood Rust Dissolver. Items that cannot be fully immersed due to size or position can be placed in the discharge stream of a commonly available small pump. Virtually any plastic pump will work. Commonly available perforated irrigation hose can be used to assure complete coverage. Construct a catch system to recycle the streaming Eastwood Rust Dissolver. Surface being treated must remain wet with Eastwood Rust Dissolver. Check progress periodically. Length of time to de-rust varies with the severity of rust. Light surface rust will require 5-30 minutes, moderate rust up to 4 hours, and deeply rusted parts may require overnight soaking. Once rust is removed, rinse item with water. The part is now ready for painting, powder coating, plating, or rust preventative coating. For short-time rust inhibition, simply dip the item back in the Eastwood Rust Dissolver and allow to dry.
