🥣 Instructions
This is an overview of the recipe steps. For more detailed instructions visit the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Step 1: Heat butter in a medium skillet and add the sliced onions. Cook until soft.
- Step 2: Clean and slice the fresh mushrooms (for smaller mushrooms cut in half).
- Step 3: Add to the pan with the sauteed onion and cook another couple minutes.
- Step 4: Add the garlic and cook again 2 minutes.
- Step 5: Add the brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce and the black pepper. Cook a further 5 minutes then remove from heat and garnish with parsley.
Hint: Try not to stir too much, or these steakhouse mushrooms will become soggy. If you can, rather 'pan-flip' a few times. Any browned bits will only add to the flavor.

- Ground Beef - to add a little meat.
- Fresh Herbs - add some fresh herb flavors or different spices.
- Lemon Juice - add some for a tangy sauce.
- Soy Sauce -
- Sour Cream - add a little for more of a cream gravy or creamy sauce.

A brush to clean the mushrooms is best, then a knife to slice the onions and mushrooms. A medium-large skillet and that's all you need.

🧊 Storage
Once the mushrooms have cooled completely, if you have any left, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave for just a minute or so.
💡 Tips
Expert Tip: It's preferred to brush mushrooms rather than wash with water, as they're very porous and will soak up some water.
👩🍳 FAQs
Do you saute mushrooms on medium or high heat?
Mushrooms are better sauteed somewhere in the middle - over medium-high heat, without stirring too much - as this can encourage fluid to be released from the mushrooms - giving way for soggy mushrooms.

Notes
It's important not to move the mushrooms around too much when cooking or they'll become soggy. If you're able, pick up the skillet and 'pan-flip' the mushrooms once or twice.
