How Do I Calculate My APS?

Your APS is calculated using your Matric marks. You can use the following table to find out how many points you have for each of your subjects. Remember that Life Orientation does not count towards your APS.

Percentage Bracket

Point Allocation

80% – 100%

7

70% – 79%

6

60% – 69%

5

50% – 59%

4

40% – 49%

3

30% – 39%

2

0% – 29%

You can then add up the number of points you have for each subject to find your APS. You can also use an online calculator. Remember to input Life Orientation in the single point bracket no matter what your actual mark was.

What Have We Learned?

  • There is a wide range of different APS requirements for each qualification depending on which university you are applying to
  • Always check with the university you are applying to for any specific requirements for the course you want to study
