Your Computer Name (also known as the computer’shostname) is used by our OIT Technicians to locate your computer’s physical location on campus, install software, and keep track of repairs that have been performed.
LocatingYour Computer's Hostnameon a PC (Windows 10)
The following steps will assist you in finding your Computer Name in Windows 10.
- On your keyboard, press theWin Keyandrat the same time to bring up theRun Dialog Box.
- In the window the window that appears on the bottom-left hand corner of your screen, type incmdand clickOK.
- The command prompt window will appear. In this window, typehostnameand pressEnter.
- The name of your computer will be displayed.
Locating Your Computer's Hostnameon a Mac
The following instructions will assist you in finding the hostname of your Apple Computer:
- From the Apple Desktop, click on theApple Logoin the top-left hand corner of the screen and selectSystem Preferences…
- From theSystem Preferencesmenu, double click on theSharingicon.
- You will see the machine’s Computer Name listed at the top of the window.
