Can I publish my paper for free? ›

Yes, you can publish a paper free of cost in some journals. These journals are known as open access journals, and they make their articles freely available to everyone online. Many journals do not charge authors to publish their work, either because they are fully OA and funded by other sources (Diamond OA), or because they use an alternative licensing model (Green OA). You can use tools such as JournalGuide to find journals that match your research topic and your budget.

Your local library

Free access is available to academic articles from most large publishers through library computers. This is a "walk-in" service, so you'll have to visit your local library in person and ask your librarian. A map of participating locations is available through the link below.

Apart from subscription journals there are non-commercial journals, some of which are free to read and to publish in, such as Journal of Machine Learning Research. Some institutions such as universities or scientific societies run their own journals and some of them are free to read and publish in.
