In the window that appears, your computer name will be displayedunder "Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings" (Windows 7 andVista) or next to "Full computer name:" (XP).
Using the command prompt
From the Start menu, select All Programs orPrograms, then Accessories, and then CommandPrompt.
In the window that opens, at the prompt, enterhostname. The result on the next line of thecommand prompt window will display the hostname of themachine without the domain.
Note: Applications running on Unixsystems are case sensitive, and recognize bl-uits-xxxxx andBL-UITS-XXXXX as two different computers. If you are providing yourcomputer's hostname to be used on one of these systems, be careful toindicate the correct character case.

Launch the Control Panel by searching for "Control Panel" in the Start Menu, or by typing Win+R and typing "control.exe" in the Run menu. On the System Information screen, you will see both the hostname and FQDN of your machine.

The hostname is what a device is called on a network. Alternative terms for this are computer name and site name. The hostname is used to distinguish devices within a local network.
In the Internet, a hostname is a domain name assigned to a host computer. This is usually a combination of the host's local name with its parent domain's name. For example, en.wikipedia.org consists of a local hostname (en) and the domain name wikipedia.org.
Run the nslookup command with an IP address from which you want to get the hostname. This command works a bit differently from the ping command that is discussed above. See the syntax to run on command prompt (CMD).
The local hostname is your computer's name with .local added, and any spaces are replaced with hyphens. For example, if your computer's name is My Computer, your local hostname is My-Computer. local. Local hostnames aren't case sensitive, so my-computer.
