Ebay has published disappointing first-quarter forecasts as the platform struggles to retain customers as the online ecommerce boom slows down.
The online marketplace platform watched its shares tumble by nearly 9% in extended trading.
Ecommerce platforms stocked up the coffers during the pandemic as online shopping boomed and shops closed, however the vaccine rollout has meant that ecommerce marketplaces are starting to see a decline in usage as consumers return to bricks-and-mortar retail.
Ebay rival Amazon, which saw huge growth during the pandemic has also forecasted disappointing first-quarter sales estimates.
Active users on Ebay have steadily declined over recent months and the company expects a further hit as it ramps up investments.

Users have declined 9% to 147 million in the quarter, Ebay said.
“The second quarter should mark the low point for margins during the year as we lap difficult comps and ramp up our pace of investment,” Ebay finance chief Stephen Priest said in a post-earnings conference call.
Shares fell to $50.28 in extended trading on Wednesday. They declined 18% so far this year, while the broader S&P Index dropped by 11%.
The company’s 2022 revenue and profit forecasts were also below expectations.
A large proportion of Ebay’s revenue comes from advertising on its platform which crossed $1 billion last year, the company announced.
Gross merchandise volume (GMV), however fell 10% to $20.7 billion.

I have been an eBay member since 2004, if eBay disallows me to pay seller for a listed item with Paypal in future, or denies me the right to accept personal bank deposits or cash on an Item that I sell, or pay my eBay costs with Paypal then I will find an Alternative Auction site.. I will also recommend my facebook friends and groups to do the same

Unless eBay re-instates “Paypal” as a payment option, Not only will it continue to loose Buyers, their sellers will continue to also disappear, this is there only chance to revive the Auction Site.

eBay is becoming obsolete. They did it to themselves with poor format changes and massive fee increases. A once great fun auction site has been dismantled by poor executive decisions.anthony rykala

Ebay’s customer service is what has tanked. That and their policies. They have mistaken themselves for a company that does not need to value the buyers and traders on the site. I have had an abysmal experience this last week. NEVER NEVER buy anyone or yourself an Ebay gift card. They limit where it can be spent, and when you try to use it not knowing that it is an unethical policy, they freeze the funds. So Ebay has frozen a substantial chunk of my money, refused to honour it, refused to unfreeze it, and not one of their online (farmed out) employees has the authority to fix any one problem. The problem is at the top. They have taken to mistreating customers who have been with them for years and right now I am completely fed up. The only improved feature is that they have ceased letting Asian sellers post 500 of the same item to take up page after page. Here is a clue. If the buyer didn’t want it the first time they saw it? They still don’t want it the 100th time. That saw the mom and pop antiques shoppe replaced by party favours. They have tied up my funds for days now, and it has wasted hours of my time.

My company has sold hundreds of thousands of dollars of goods on eBay since the first month that they started up.

Money has a way of making people think that they can ignore their customer’s needs.
eBay has continuously made decisions that are difficult for sellers.
They removed the ability of sellers to leave FEEDBACK, but allow buyers to lie, cheat and scam without restriction.
They allow customers to buy new clothing, wear it to their function, soil it and then return it. eBay issues a full refund, while the seller takes a huge loss.
They continuously raise fees and reduce seller’s ability to make a profit.
They forced us into their own banking scheme and removed Paypal which functioned seamlessly.
Now, they have FORCED us into a new format listing tool that has busted our own well refined system program where we ran their old classic tool right next to our onscreen database that had specific output formatted specifically for ebay listings.
Well, now that we would have to rewrite a 20 year old program that we have carefully modified to save us time, we no longer feel the need to list on eBay at all. There are many other online places to sell.
eBay has been loosing sellers at an alarming rate and their stock is dropping like a rock. I wonder why? NOT.
Goodbye eBay. Your insensitivity and rigid policies that HURT sellers have reached an unacceptable level.
We just deleted all of the listings in our account and filled in the request to close an account that has been in use for 20 plus years.

ReplyBeen selling on there for 21 years.
Never had the terrible month I just had. I have thousands of items, I average 13 sales a month and $3500 a month
I have not sold one item now in 23 days straight! That never happened before. And my record of like 12 days straight was
years ago when I had much less items. I am finding that all my hard work is going to waste. The biggest worry is the sudden
drought of sales which happens every once in a while. Like a sudden 8 day straight zero sales. I feel they have done too many
changes too quickly and they are terribly dishonest lately to their sellers. I am planning on copying all my information and pictures which I
worked so hard on and just moving it all to my website and social media platforms.
