The Difference Between Vampire Facials And Microneedling (2024)

The Difference Between Vampire Facials And Microneedling (1)Vampire facials aren’t as scary as they sound — and we promise that there are no vampires involved!

A vampire facial uses the Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) in your own body to help encourage skin growth and healing, a process similar to microneedling. But before you sign up for either of these PRP facials, it’s important to understand the difference and find the right facial for you.

Read below to learn more about vampire facials — available at Renew Medical Aesthetics in Loveland — and how they differ from a microneedling appointment. Schedule a consultation at our local medical spa and let our team of cosmeticians help you fall in love with your skin again.

Vampire Facial

Yes — vampire facials involve blood. But you don’t need Dracula’s help when you schedule a vampire facial at your medical spa.

Unlike microneedling, which uses a special serum, you’re getting your own PRP re-injected into your face, minus Platelet-Poor Plasma (PPP). In short, a vampire facial uses your own cells to help promote new tissue growth and healthy skin, treating different skin conditions like:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Rosacea
  • Collagen and volume loss
  • Crow’s feet
  • Dark under-eye circles
  • Large pores
  • Roughly textured skin
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Acne scarring

The PRP in your own body is not something that can be re-created in any cosmetic product because they’re cells that are unique to you, giving a cleaner version of cells that already help your skin grow and heal.

We promise you won’t leave your vampire facial feeling like a vampire!

What to expect:

A vampire facial uses your own blood as the promoter for your healing and restoration. During your vampire facial, your face and neck will be numbed with a topical lidocaine so blood can be drawn from those areas (don’t worry, the procedure only requires 30mL of blood — equivalent to just two tablespoons). This blood will be sent through a centrifuge that separates your PRP from your PPP.

This PRP is injected into your skin in a way similar to microneedling, just replacing their special serum with your own PRP.

Once the PRP has been injected back under your facial skin, your face is coated in a “plasma mask.” This “mask” can be rinsed off between 20 minutes and 24 hours post-treatment. You will also be sent home with the Growth Factor serum — used in a microneedling treatment — to give your skin additional hydration and healing benefits.

Time: 75–90 minutes
Post-procedure: Your skin may feel tight and tender and look red.
Results: After one treatment, your results can last for 10–12 weeks so come back to our medical spa every three months for long-lasting results.

Microneedling Facial

Microneedling involves less blood than your vampire facial. With this procedure, your face will still be numbed as small needles will be injected into your skin. The micro-needles help shock your collagen, bringing it back to life.

What to expect:

Since you’re not using PRP, a special serum will be used to inject under your skin. The serum that is chosen will depend on what your skin needs — like vitamin C, vitamin A, or growth factor.

Needles are then used to penetrate the dermis of your skin, injecting the serum and triggering your collagen. About nine different needles are used around your face and neck. You may find that your forehead and the bridge of your nose are the most sensitive, but the micro-needles should feel like small vibrations as the serum is injected.

Time: 45 minutes
Post-procedure: Your forehead and nose may feel tender while your face will be a pinkish red.
Results: For the most optimal results, get a series of three treatments every two to three weeks at our medical spa.
